Sakuragi Shrine

A shrine has existed on this site since the Heian Period. It was founded in 851 by Tsuguyoshi, who was the 3rd son of Fuyutsugu, 5th generation descendant of Lord Fujiwara Kamatari; a key figure in the Taika Reformation of 645.

When Tsuguyoshi moved to this area from Kyoto, he was inspired by the beauty of the large cherry trees he saw here, to build a shrine and he named it Sakuragi (cherry tree) Shrine.

Sakuragi is the oldest shrine in Noda and as such has enjoyed the patronage and support of generations of the people of the region.
