Tyneside.

My Husband and I visited the Metro Centre for some shopping today. If you go in from one of the inside car parks this large mural of Tyneside is on one of the walls.A ceramic artist worked with schools and community groups to produce 700 tiles, each one depicting Tyneside, or a part of a landmark in Tyneside, such as the Angel of the North(extreme left).
The Magpie is the emblem of Newcastle's football team. St James Park football ground is at the top in the middle. The big wheel is the Hoppings (the fair that comes to Newcastle every June), and the Tyne Bridge is over the Rive Tyne, with all the fish. The Millennium Bridge is in the middle on the right, and further to the left on the bottom, is the Sage Gateshead concert hall. Left again is a lake with swans, this is Saltwell Park. Some of the tiles show children's ideas of Tyneside, showing their schools or local shops.
I think it is a remarkable piece of work, and those who took part in it should be very proud.
