A tear-drop, perhaps?
This young, unopened Strelitzia flower thought it fit to shed one viscous 'tear-drop' before opening up and exhibiting a myriad of beautiful colours to an (un)kind world.
Apart from being indigenous to South Africa, this flower is also the national flower of the Republic. It has several apt names; eg. Bird of Paradise, and also: Crane flower.
Being called Bird of Paradise may refer to all the colours exhibited once open - surely a prism would be left shy!
Being called the 'Crane flower' would refer to the beautiful poise and stance of the Crane ...
Once open, this flower is visited by many winged creatures, seeking nectar and such delights, leaving the flower to soon lose its pristine and waxlike appearance... but even in its dried and discarded mode, it is still beautful and a delight to both photagraphers and artists ....
