thousand drachma - a Greek banknote from 1942. Found amongst the papers of my late godmother, whose training for SOE Greek section was ended by the end of the war, and she found herself in the Foreign Office in the ensuing civil war. She would be sad at the political confusion surrounding currency now, but comforted that the grim days of killing are long gone.
