Happiness is...
Following a good night's sleep I decided that the dogs had been so well behaved, during our difficult and protracted journey yesterday, that they deserved a really good walk as a treat before setting off for a further 5 hour session in the car. So, my niece and I took them down to the beach. The tide was well out and they immediately romped off together, not believing their good fortune. An hour or so later and I had two very happy canines who seemed quite content to snuggle down in the boot of the car for the next leg of the journey. I confess that I also enjoyed the chance to stretch my legs and take in some fresh sea air.
Compared with yesterday the journey today was a dream. The motorway wound its way through really scenic parts of the countryside, Cumbria and then into the Scottish Borders and although the temperature outside was not particularly high, the sun did come out for some of the afternoon and the hills were looking stunning. The traffic was relatively light and so it was easy to be able to enjoy the views and still drive safely. Then, as I neared home along more country roads, a large flock of geese must have been disturbed from a field nearby and suddenly took to the sky, flying in several skein formations high above the road and in full view as I drove along. It brought to mind the wonderful gathering of starlings experienced by a fellow blipper just a few days ago in Cumbria.
Unpacking, clothes washing and checking of mail can all wait until tomorrow.
