Gary's Den.
This is my good friend and colleague Gary's basement.
First, we need to introduce Gary. He is a year younger than me and we have been friends for a very long time. We both started working in the area of youth and community work nearly 10 years ago as volunteers. We now both run centres that we used to attend as young people and one day hope to open our very own centre or training provider. Gary is a family man and father to three children. He is a big kid at heart though, this is evident through his passion for gaming. Ever since I have known Gary, he has always been good at computer games. He was the kid that would come round your house and completely annihalte at you at your new game that you had been playing solidly for a week even though it would be his first go. I guess you could say he's a natural. When Gary, or 'Wally' as he used to be known as, gets time away from work and the family responsibilities, he retreats to his 'den' to unwind and play his X-box. This isnt all the den has to offer. As you can see in the photo, there are 4 TV sets, 3 of which are 32" HD flat screens. He also has Sky, a Nintendo Wii and a Playstation 3. Plenty to keep him occupied! What he does need to invest in is some heating. It gets a bit chilly down there at the best of times.
I covered Gary's centre tonight as his girlfriend was unwell and he was needed at home. After work I popped the paperwork and keys in and ended up watching Sherlock Holmes with him in the den. Recentley, Gary's partner Victoria has made an offer of a 50" plasma top of the range TV to give up the den..... Could it be the end of an era?
