Old Burntisland Distillery

Evening All,

On ye olde Heritage Trail today lol ;0)........hunting down the whisky.......Haggis is too difficult to catch !!!! ;0)

Burntisland had its very own Distillery for more than 200 years. It was a Brewery, 1767, prior to being a Distillery, 1786 when William Young started distillation on site. There was a major battle over the water needed to supply the distillery with the Youngs against the Aytouns, family of yesterdays blip. They had a quarry and needed to move the water supplying the Distillery. This battle even went to the High Court with eventually an interdict being issued on the Aytouns, the families paying there own dues, reservoirs being built to supply the Distillery and no break in the source.

Whisky making ceased in the town around 1916 and all that remains are the Distillery House, which the photo above is of the front door, a duty free warehouse and the cottage.

Pour one, a whisky in the jar, and toast what is now a memory !! ;0)

Have a great evening ;0)

TTFN ;0)
