Portrait of an old city
I like visiting the old city. Like I've said before, it seems more real to me than so much of the faster growing areas.
This shot was taken in the early hours of the morning at the 'official' pigeon feeding grounds in the 500 year old Mecca Masjid. There are thousands of pigeons, wed-fed ones, mind you, fluttering all around. It is quite a scene. I could sit and watch them all day. It is also a place for morning people to come and meet one another and for the religious ones to go in and pray. Though there is much movement on the outside, something inside is calm and still.
I like the way different faiths have found a way to coexist in these parts. In a world that is growing vastly intolerant with each generation, it is good to see communal harmony even in places where time moves more slowly than some others.
I enjoyed taking this photo. I was much of a spectator, really. I was going through a crisis in framing my shots when Chaos suggested that I let the camera show me the world than it being the other way around. It was just the advice I needed and gave it a shot. And I somehow I like the 'chaos' in this photo. And for me, it all seems to come together. I see so many stories here and I see mornings as they are, as perhaps they always have been in the old city.
