cotton & chocolate

this is day 7 of my program's week-long trip.


We spent the morning experiencing village life. After taking a walk, we helped our tour guide's family extract cotton from its shells and prepare dumplings for lunch. (In this photo, the green stuff on the ground is cotton in its shells.) It was really wonderful to have homemade food. The baozi we had for breakfast were the softest I have ever had and the pumpkin noodle soup we ate for dinner was better than any noodle soup I have had in Shanghai. 


After a 5-hour bus ride, we arrived in Jiayuguan city. One of my friends had been craving chocolate all day, so we wandered around the city that night looking for chocolate. Our escapade into Jiayuguan city was a success and my friends and I spent the night chatting and playing Chinese poker.
