I don't have a clue about standing stones and am just irritated by most of the speculation. I do however know that it was a man's idea. Somewhere, sometime a wee boy said to other wee boys "Wouldn't it be fantastic, to like, get this stone, like really huge stone, and like take it a long way a way to somewhere a bit spooky and like then stand it on it's end!" The other wee boys said "Magic - aye - go on then - mental!" and the women raised their eyes to the heavens and got on with real life.
