In All of My Life, So that Much More I See

My Boss wonders why I can't sit in my seat all day.

This is why.

Our building is South Facing, and apart from the Runway of the airport, a couple of roads, and a bit of golf course / caravan park there is nothing between us and the sea.

The sun rises to the far end of the building in the morning, and gradually works it's way round. Blinds are a must as on a sunny day, the sun streams in and we can't see the screens. I leave mine for as long as possible, and that's probably why I've got a white glowing shape in front of my eyes tonight.

To the south we see across Prestwick Town, over to Ayr and then the Heads of Ayr. The Heads of Ayr are big green mound sheltering Ayr. One part of it rapidly turning silver, as more and more holiday homes are installed at the Caravan Park. South West: Ailsa Craig, commonly referred to as Paddy's Mile Stane.

To the West; Arran and the Holy Isle, and parts of Troon just long the coast to the north.

You could quite happily sit and watch the sky all day.

Today however, the sky was broken by immense noise.

Not fireworks, but these.

These are Canadian Airforce Hornets. They landed a couple of days ago along with a large carrier plane. They buzzed in and out a few times and then it went quiet.

Today, two took off. We knew there were 7, so I ran outside to try and grab a shot of them. This was the best i got! And it hid behind a tree!

From inside the office it was loud, but bearable. From inside the warehouse, you had to hold your head. When the 3rd one took off, I had just stepped outside the door and noise was so immense it set me off giggling. I think if it had circled a few times, my head may have exploded. I steeled myself for the fourth, and just managed to catch it.

The last three left about 3/4 of an hour later, just as I stepped outside again to let the Courier in. The two of us stood there, breathless with the closeness and the noise. You can feel your ribs vibrate.

These planes had been on a stop over after carrying out the bombing raids in Libya.

My heart was so happy for these chappies, who in leaving us, would fly up and over the Arctic, and straight to Canada, and back into the arms of the families they left behind for so long, to do such a horrible job.

But without them to do it, the world would be a much worse place.
