Thatch
Thatchers are still working in our area of the country and fields of longer stalked straw are still being grown for the purpose of thatching. Not only for repairs of old thatch but also a few new cottages are being built with thatched roofs.
N was feeling much better (I am relieved to say) and we met R a friend who farms over the hill for lunch in a nearby pub. (This is the view from the pub garden.) R was telling us that his son has now returned from university and has suddenly decided to take on the family farm which is good news. The farm was beginning to be wound down and parts of it rented out. They are organic and have decided to keep a few pigs, they already have some beef cattle so now their business has new energy to carry it forward.
T was out again on the farmer's pheasant shoot and had a good day with the other farmers, beaters and their dogs. Tess did not accompany him this time as she is in season. He and K have now gone to the village bonfire and fireworks in a field nearby where there will be quite a crowd gathering with their young families and hot food for sale.
