Barn Razing!
Today, about 11 of us congregated at an old house and barn out in the Margaree area....to help George and Cora-Lee take down an old barn for them to reuse in the renovations at their place! They have already spent many hours out there...but this was to be the last ditch effort before the end of the year and the place is covered with snow! So the stakes were high, there were 3 trucks and 11 bodies.....and the promise of George's curry and beer afterwards!!! Things got underway around 11am....we arrived about 12.30....and it looked totally undoable....not by the end of the day, if we wanted to be finished before it got too dark! Well, i tell you, for an old barn - which actually used to be part of the funeral home in town.....it was built extremely well....it took a lot of chainsawing, sledge hammering to bring most of it down.....by around 6.30 - 7pm...some of us were inside, eating the delicious curry and downing a beer....the others - the more insane ones - continued on in the dark! Now maybe it's just me, but somehow chainsaws, wobbly structures and no light don't make for a good mix! luckily nothing untowards happened, but after a lot of heaving and pulling with chains and trucks etc....the last part (seen here) wasn't going to budge!
We finally unloaded the last truck load at their place around 9pm.....in the dark, cold and everyone feeling more than done!
But all in all a good effort, and such a great bunch of folks.....it is amazing to see a community rally together to give support to the more insanely possessed memebers !!! Their yard looks like a totally crazy place right now....piles of old lumber, bricks, doors and all sizes of pieces of wood....they have incredible energy.....and enjoy all of it.....but rather them than me - there is an amazing amount of work to be done!
Check it out big!!!
