Crash
Big mountain bike day, and the lads were up at ... 8am.
Funny, great bunch of guys, all known each other since school, all BIG outdoors people, but all have families and kids now. Somtb priorities are changed somewhat. Like it ;-)
Got away from the house around 10.30 and by the time we reposition cars etc we started the ride of the 42nd Traverse at noon. Cool, windy, raining on and off, but sometimes sunny and hot.
The ride is 46km, along a 4WD drive track, through some fantastic bush. My thought was that it was mostly downhill with limited uphill. In reality there is some great downhill, but plenty of uphill. Tougher than what I thought.
Very scenic, good tracks, the odd river crossing, and plenty of mud. Also, the occasional motorbike, which somewhat dampened the enthusiasm to ride superfast downhill. Especially after we saw a motorbike and quadbike collision, where one of the riders broke an arm. Ouch!
Then then a little over 4 hours later we emerged at Owhango Pub. Cold beer, perfect.
Great day. Then home for dinner, several ales while we relived the ride, and an early night!
BTW, I avoided falling in the puddle, just!
