Toolibelle told me something interesting the other day.

She said that a cat's whiskers were there to help it determine whether or not it could get thru spaces.

This explains why Beanie has short whiskers no more than an inch to either side of her nose while Beau (aka Fatcat) has whiskers which stretch three inches on either side of her face!
