Saturday: Old Soldiers
Spent a great day exploring Rye. The rain held off for most of the day which was a great bonus.
Rye is great - it has a real old world charm about it. One of the reasons we were drawn there was because the writer, Radclyffe Hall, used to live in Rye. K. and I have a peculiar fascination for her, and her companion, Una Lady Troubridge. Not because Radclyffe Hall was a great writer but because the pair were quite barmy and eccentric and who doesn't love an eccentric? Henry James also lived in Rye for many years but sadly his house, which is now owned by The National Trust, is now closed for the winter.
Spent a great evening, playing bar billiards, having had the rules explained to us by a local.
It was tough call on what to post today. Inevitable, when you visit somewhere new, but for me, this old chap summed up Rye - charming, and not quite of this era.
