Summer Palace

A spot of culture today to make good use of our day off. It started with a bacon sandwich and mug of tea at Sequoia, before four of us (some more hungover than others) took a couple of tubes and a taxi out to Summer Palace. It wasn't as mobbed as I thought it would be and was surprisingly green and lush with a thinner layer of smog than we're used to in the centre of town.

I didn't get to the Summer Palace when Ninny and I did Beijing in '06 but it's a lovely setting with plenty to see. Boating lake, men flying kites - that sort of thing. The architecture is similar in design to places like the Forbidden City and the Imperial City of Hue in Vietnam, so once you've seen one..... Another box ticked!

It's been a great, action-packed weekend - the Netball Tournament seems like ages ago already! An invigorating but soothing foot massage was an excellent way to end the day and I'm trying not to think about the work ahead of me tomorrow.
