Fight club

For fans of boxing, it's been a sad week following the loss of Joe Frazier.

I thought of him as I was passing the historic Leith Victoria boxing club (above) this morning en route to work. It is Scotland's oldest surving boxing club and has spawned the likes of Alex Arthur who won a world title.

When I first started working in Leith, this building was in a relatively poor condition, but last year it received a grant which led to a complete refurbishment including the replacement of some sandstone blocks. (How do they do that anyway?).

So it lives on for another generation and, who knows, maybe Leith can produce a heavyweight champion like Smokin' Joe!
