Cartagena or Cartago Nova
This city was founded by the Carthaginians in the second century BC, on a Phoenician or Iberian town.
It was an important city for mineral deposits of silver, lead and zinc and because it had the safest natural harbor on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
Its history is rich and it involves characters such as Hannibal, Scipio, Augustus and Justinian.
At the bottom of the photo is part of the port, and in the center the magnificent Roman theater, built by Emperor Augustus, discovered in the late 1980's and underwent a thorough restoration.
However, as nothing is perfect, someone built the amphitheater in the foreground of the photo. This piece is a demonstration of how little we humans learned from the Romans and Vitruvius.
