MARIMO!

Marimo, also known as Lake ball or Moss Balls. It is a rare growth form of the species where the algae grow into large green balls with a velvety appearance.

Marimo is a very popular plant in Japan. Currently protected by the authorities to prevent extinction. The Japanese believe that Marimo will bring good luck and ever-lasting love to your friends or loved ones.

A one-year old can measure around 0.8cm - 1.2cm. By the time it is 10, it should be around 3.5cm - 4.5cm. It grows 5mm every year. EVERY YEAR! OMG, no wonder I see no difference in it even though it has been in my house for so long...

But it is a very nice 'pet'. You don't even have to pay much attention to it, but I can stare at it for long, because it is so cute!

Hopefully 10 years down the road, it will grow bigger...
