Old Boots, Teary Goodbye
These boots are now 20+ years old, I have had them re-soled 3-4 times. The last time the people who did it ruined them, they have never been the same since. Now the zipper is getting stuck, and is pulling away from the boots. They are tired, and have seen MANY miles. The last time I had them "fixed" was days before my move to NH from NC, now, they are going to the trash, just days before my move to ME from NH. I will miss these boots, they have been through much with me, even the night i met my wife. I know they are just foot wear but when they are older than my oldest child (whom is now a teenager), there is an emotional attachment to them. This is not the only pair of boots this old that I own (and still wear). As I type this, I am wearing these boots that I have had since Oct. 1996, issued to me by the U.S.M.C. in Paris Island. Ironically They are both the same brand. Anyone who knows me, knows how hard I am on the things I wear, the age of these boots is a testament to the quality that they were. I would happily pay what I paid 20+ years ago for another pair of these zipper boots, just like them. It averages out to be about $6.25/year of use, that is quite the investment! They have seen the ground on 2 coasts, and countless states between and nearly ever state on the East Coast and every state on the West Coast. It is now time for a sentimental goodbye for these boots, they are no longer even fit for donation. They will be missed.
