Cork competion for skyline

I like Cork. I'm only here for a day and I haven't explored it well, but it has a good feel to it. It sits in a bowl of hills and the centre is defined by the River Lee. The harbour joins the town seamlessly for the bows of a big ship moored in the River, towered over the Michael Collins Bridge. It looked quite incongruous, as if it had lost it's way and was only stopped by the bridge!

When I climbed up to Wellington Road on the North of town, the ship was still competing for attention, this time with church spires on the skyline. The houses rise up in terraces and are often brightly painted in different colours which adds a touch of gaiety on a grey day. Some had little gardens like the one where I took this photo.

Cork today, London tomorrow.
