Quite a fitting day for remembrance with the date being 11/11/11.

The poppy is from the Scottish poppy appeal which is far simpler and humble looking than other poppies manufactured by Royal British Legion. The Royal British Legion poppies also only have 2 petals, my OCD could cope with this as poppys should have 4-6 petals. However they are nothing compared to the ostentatious fashion symbols some use, such as the conservative MP on question time last night - I found it garish and more about looking good rather than remembrance.

The Scottish poppy appeal was set up by Lady Haig in 1926 here in Edinburgh to employ 40 injured ex servicemen and is still going strong today. You can find more info on their website here.


In other news, I am quite looking forward to 11:11:11 11/11/11 - nothing will happen like this ever again (unless we add ten more months to the calendar).
