Canadian Rockies

We hiked back into the human world today and everything feels so backward and strange already. This is a look back at what we were leaving behind wistfully...

It was a very busy day - from a quite morning hiking out to the trailhead and passing hordes of tourists on the paved trail as we arrived closer. They looked at us with amazement, as if "those people look like they actually go out there and camp in that wilderness.." Geeez, who would have thought?

Meanwhile we did what the masses do that night and "camped" outside our trailers in an RV campground surrounded like Jurassic Park in electrical voltage to deter grizzlies from all the human junk and food everywhere. What a strange introduction back being in a modern RV campground. I just don't understand why some people come out to parks and wilderness but insist on bringing all their stuff and amenities. Why don't they just stay at home. They are not engaging with this place at all on its terms...aahh

While Steve gave the section exam I drove the Trans-Canada back to Banff to get the van an oil change and pick up food for a big farewell feast. Luckily I found a lovely farmers market and stocked up on all sorts of goodies - fresh vegetables, wild berries, and even a homemade saskatoon pie! Back at camp that night we made homemade pizzas, including my new favorite concoction - nutella and raspberry pizza on a camp stove. Divine*

Steve and I tried to grade the exams exhausted near midnight and then I finally got a hot shower in. As a joke I shaved my beard into a funky fu-man-chu moustache for the students to discover groggy and bleary eyed in the morning. I will be the one to win this facial hair contest yet!
