Bush Hut

Had a lovely drive today with friends to Glen Innes, about 2 1/2 hrs inland. We drove up through the Gibraltor Range National Park, a lovely drive with mountain scenery for at least half of the way. I took lots of photos of the mountains from the various lookouts but unfortunately they are all flops with very washed out colours. I'm going to have to work that one out!

I took this one on the way home when we stopped beside the Mann River for a break. It's a nice spot and this little hut is used for overnight shelter by campers and travellers. Our friend, who drives the road regularly, said he often sees people in there with their swags. Behind the hut is a paddock with lots of wild flowers in it so I wandered over to the fence to have a look and was totally amazed and excited to find bushes of Scottish Thistle growing wild!! I have never seen them before, let alone in Australia. I have always thought how beautiful they were when I've seen them as the Scottish emblem on various things and in photos, so to find them growing wild about 1hr from home just about left me speechless and made a great day even more special.See Scottish Thistle pic here

Also another first on the way home - I've always wanted to get a photo of the Sugar Cane burning that takes place here around this time each year. The cane is burnt before harvest to remove dead leaves, weeds and other matter, and is usually done just on sunset and you never know just which farm will be burning and when. However, just before we got home, we saw the flames and headed down the nearest lane to find the fire and to get in a good spot to get a photo (but not too close). So I will link the photo of that as well.
