Highway Ibrahim Rugova

Today it opened for traffic the first 38 kilometers of highway Vrbnica-Merdare. On the occasion of this ceremony, which took place from 11.00 hours in Vrbnica participation took senior officials of Kosovo and Albania, as well as numerous citizens.

Officials of the Ministry of Infrastructure to assess the completion of the first acts of the highway is a major achievement in the history of the state of Kosovo, and that this project will open the door to the country for a perspective of economic development, and communication with the peoples of the region and beyond.

Costs of construction of the first 38 km of the highway was 330 million euros. Work on the highway will be continued until the end the whole project, which is expected to be completed by November next year.

Highway Vrbnica-Merdare was evaluated as a historic project of European integration of Kosovo and Kosovars in the EU. Work on the highway running the company, "Bechtel-Enka".

Highway, on which work is started 25th April last year, being a closed system inputs and outputs and will have only a certain connection to the very highway.

Width of the highway will be 28 meters, will have four strips of pavement by 3.75 meters, two clearway width of 3 meters, as well as green space that will be 4 feet wide.

Reduced speed on the project across the highway will be 120 km per hour, and there, where conditions allow will be able to drive the 140 km per hour, of course, the previously-approved projects.

The highway is a Dures-Morina or as otherwise referred to as "national road" linking Kosovo with Albania and out of the sea border crossing linking Kosovo with port Dures.
