D-Day Sculpture
Had a lovely walk through the Victoria Country Park today which is on the site of the Royal Victoria Military Hospital The sculpture looks out over Southampton Water and marks the place of the jetty where Queen Victoria arrived by Royal Yacht in 1856 to lay the foundation stone for the hospital. The jetty was put to use again during WW2 when the Americans took over the hospital and bought the wounded in by boat. A place steeped in history which was lost on the children who interrupted my photos by climbing on the stones and scratching their names on the slate!
