St Mary the Virgin church in Baldock dates from the 13th century. Its font predates even that, and is thought to have been used for baptisms for over 1,000 years. Next Sunday, our daughter will be the latest to go through this ceremony, and will do so in a gown used to baptise five generations of her family.
