It's all kicking off
Down the bird feeder. These little winged hunger machines have descended on a pole in my garden that mother loads with things called 'fat balls'. What they don't know is that my black bundle of fur and dribble (aka Rascal) is lurking close by hoping to get herself a free take away.
In other news England beat Spain last night. Okay it was only a friendly but it was the full Spanish first team, the side that has won both the European Championship and the World Cup. The England team featured the likes of Kyle Walker, Jack Rodwell and (to my immense pleasure) Scotty Parker. It's the first time since 1980 that England have beaten the reigning world champions (they beat Argentina that day) and the first time EVER we've beaten a team ranked 1st in the world (rankings began circa 1991). I'm not getting carried away, but a line up that didn't feature Gerrard, Rooney, Terry, and Ferdinand were able to topple a side featuring players such as Iniesta, Xavi, Villa and Casillas. I'll be honest in forty years time we'll mention this Spain side in the same breath as 1970's Brazil or 1990's Holland: this was a team of legendary players against Englands B team.
I think it epitomises what I believe the English game needs to move forward: we need to steer away from the old guard and begin to usher in the next generation. Don't hype them up, don't knock them down just let them get on with playing football. Phil Jones was strong in the midfield last night despite being a defender, and when he came on Walker looked full of menace.
However the biggest pleasure for me was seeing Scott Parker where he belongs in an England shirt. That lad should have 70 or 80 caps by now. He is a never say die player who can sit just in front of the back four and frustrate any trying to get round him. Had he not played last night I believe Spain would have scored at least two goals. If he isn't in the Euro squad I'll personally send Capello a jiffy bag full of shit and twigs to showcase my displeasure.
Have a 'insert own mood type word' Sunday won't ya'll.
