Thankful villages....

There were 52 Civil Parishes in England and Wales where every young man who went to the conflict in World War 1 returned alive, although there were many injured. Those places became known as Thankful Villages.

By the time World War 2 had come and gone, the number of Doubly Thankful Villages - who had lost no one in either conflict - had been reduced to 14. You would notice, of course, the absence in them of War Memorials.

There were none at all in Scotland.

Surprising there were any - 67 young men mentioned here from just two churches in Edinburgh.
