Mumbles Pier....

We went back to Mumbles today and shot the Pier in Sunshine and from the top of the hill opposite.
W.Sutcliffe Marsh was the designer of this 835 foot pier which opened on May 10th 1898 at a cost £10,000, it was the terminus for the Swansea and Mumbles Railway. During the war it was sectioned to prevent any landings of the German army. It was rebuilt extensively in the 1950s, and a landing jetty was added. It officially re-opened on 9th June 1956.

In March 2011, following worries that the pier might have to close, the owners announced that they would keep the pier open for a further 6 months but that this would exhaust their emergency funds.
Then in April the plans for the pier restoration together with the construction of a new RNLI lifeboat station, were given the green light by Swansea Council. Funding is still need if these restoration is to go ahead, In the mean time the Pier has been closed to the public until the restoration is complete.

Shortly after taking this picture we headed off for home and return Maddison to her parents, we will head off to Saltburn in the North East tomorrow, I am looking forward to the next week as it means a lot to finish these Piers if it is at all possible.

The image is for ASG as he is far from home at this time of remembrance.
