The Misfits
We went for a walk today and started off from the Canadian War Memorial. (Troops were 'stationed' in the Forest before D-Day before going off to Portsmouth or flying from nearby airfields. The memorial is on the site where they gathered for services)
It was 11.30 when we arrived and people were moving on.
The local Harley owners club had attended in force and with the noise from their bikes as they set off and the older veterans about I felt a bit uneasy about the scene. I was thinking how do the veterans like it? Have the bikers gatecrashed something special for the guys that were there. A friend said, "they might like it, they're showing their respect."
Whatever people think this is what grabbed me - it's about this bloke and his 'brotherhood'
I looked a bit harder - and noticed the old Para (maroon beret with the camera). He had shouted at the bikers above the noise, "Well smile then!" as he was taking a picture. You could see he had real spirit and seemed to be loving the spectacle. Maybe some people were thinking that these bikers should disappear and 'get their haircut' but not him.
It reminded me of this -
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things."
