Hector the whippet
Long story short: today I found what I thought was an abandoned dog. No collar, wandering about the banks of the river Tweed in an agitated state, and generally looking and sounding a bit forlorn.
It took me nearly 30 minutes to cross the river and clamber down to the water's edge to retrieve him. He is a really lovely wee dog so I took him back to my work.
One of my friends suggested an appeal by Radio Borders, and thirty minutes later Hector was back with his family - his owner had been trying to land a giant salmon (honest!) and had wandered downstream and not noticed that Hector had got lost.
All's well that ends well - apart from my now filthy shoes!
