Franz Joseph glacier South Westland

The glacier is one of the few in the world which goes from the mountain tops to sea level. It is possible to walk to 100m from the glacier and see the ice cave the river flows from. It is gradually receding and shrinking, but is a very popular tourist attraction as it is easy to walk to and to view. With a guide it is possible to walk on the glacier. And there are of course heli and plane sightseeing flights.
