Bucket of Slime

Is this an abandoned, or forgotten bucket? Or is it serving some higher purpose - brewing liquid fertilizer perhaps? The slime on the sticks suggests that it's been a while since it's been stirred. I didn't dare delve in to find out what might be lurking.
