Flight Ryanair 99 into Recession
Remember the days when flying was unthinkable? When it was the exclusive means of locomotion of the very first jet-set (hence the expression. In the Ryanair era, jet-set means stag nights in Amsterdam and shopping trips to Carcassonne)
Then flying became the extra-ordinary way of travelling: transportation for migration or bereavement purposes. The airline ticket that required months, possibly years of saving, or the last minute emergency rush to pay your last respects to a close family member.
Then low-cost carriers arrived. We all started flying, because we could. No reason needed. Just because we are worth it [Little shake of the hair while taking a last deep breath of fresh air at the top of the stairs, before boarding yet another Ryanair flight, with its bright blue and yellow vinyl seats - it's easier for cleaning the hangover-induced vomit - its scratch cards, its 17 year old stewards who know more about anti-acne creams than they would about emergency exit procedures and its calendars full of scantily-clad flight attendants]
With a barrel at $200, how smooth will the landing be?
