Ding dong - The witch is dead.
Ok, not a witch, but the bookcase, and it's not dead, merely in bits and finally resting upstairs... replaced by this thing of beauty...
Had trouble deciding what wood to use for this, eventually decided on Yew. Although I then found out it's quite hard to source, and expensive, but my heart was set on it...
I knew there was one in the churchyard at the smaller church up Martindale, by Ullswater. It was quite old I think so probably due for felling anyways. So in the middle of one night I went up armed with a chainsaw and fetched it home via three trailer loads.
Although they're big trunks, they're not very solid, so I then had to go and find a second one to finish it off. Not too sure which churchyard the second came from as I was driving randomly around looking for one, it was in the north of the county.
So all in all, saved a few Bob, and in this day and age, no bad thing. Everyone happy!
Well, except I did hear one of the church's vicar was a bit miffed, but hey ho life goes on, grow another. I didn't have time to wait growing one. Out of the goodness of my heart, I might go back and plant a Leylandii. That should cheer him up.
Oh and the iron work, came from an internal door in the second church as well, so an added bonus. In my opinion the church looked a little better without the door, a more open-plan sort of feeling.
