water wake...
...left behind from a boat - having a late autumn run on the lake
scaring up hundreds of geese and gulls that were sunning on the water... scattering them far and wide - across the park and through the skies... screeching to each other - honking directions to safety through the tree tops - a sight to see... wings flapping in long, steady strokes as the wind helped carry them away and i could see them no more.
i stood waiting... watching the boat take several passes. perhaps it was using up gas - for it was not particulary warm and cozy on the water and it didn't appear they were out for pleasure. after about 15 minutes it was done - gliding towards the dock... a few groups of geese came around to check the status - dipping towards the water...
soon - flocks of geese began to return... coming in groups - lining up in their formations... again honking directions to each other - an amazing spectacle to see and observe - in action - exchanging leadership positions - paying careful attention to what each other was doing in the line up... such cooperation in numbers is astounding to me - the ability to get along without fussing - one goal... one outcome for the general good of all... accomplished with no mishaps. i will forever be in awe of this unwavering skill and it will always be a pleasure to watch them... thus making for...
a
happy day.....
