Food Cycle
Today 'Feeding The 5000' event took place in Trafalgar Square from
12 - 2pm, providing a free lunch for anyone who was interested in seeing what the project is all about.
All the tasty food was 'made from delicious ingredients that otherwise would have been wasted'.
My friends and I really enjoyed our lunch hour out in the unexpected November sun, and what with all the troubles with riots and demonstrations around us, it was so lovely to see thousands of people all together in one place, in such a peaceful and fun atmosphere.
"Each year, the UK food industry sends 1.6 million tonnes of food to the landfill. An estimated 25% of this food can be collected to make quality meals. At the same time, there are 4 million people affected by food poverty in the UK.
What Foodcycle does is simple. We empower local volunteers to start their own projects, bringing together surplus food and spare kichen spaces to cook nutritious meals for the community at risk from food poverty."
