I know it is not for everyone, but one of the best things about Dubai and the other major cities in the Gulf (Persian or Arabian - take your pick), is the variety of different architectures that exist.
The downside, are the number of unfinished buildings and cranes the 'dot' the landscape. A friend visited this area recently having not been there before and described it as being like the West Bank.
