Birch tree and footpath
The footpath has Carr Vale flash reserve to the right (low lying valley with lakes formed as the result of former mining industry) and Peter Fidler reserve to the left (woodland in the former industrial area, named after a local figure who was a pioneer explorer of Canada with the Hudson's Bay Company).
The path is actually on a former railway embankment and the river Doe Lea passes through a tunnel underneath flowing in from the right (south). The seat right of the path overlooks the lakes.
