A look back at Buenos Aires before Buenos Aires
the historic and important botanic garden at INTA CASTELAR outside of Buenos Aires was and is again a testing ground for plants in Argentina, It was were many exotics made their first apperance in Argentina and also were many Argentine natives first tasted cultivation. It wa abandon for almost 10 years but over the last 10 or so it has been renovated with help fomr BGCI and other organizations.
Here we see what part of the province of Buenos Aires looked liked before it was paved over for a city. A open forest of a native Celtis and a native Ziziphus. Much of Buenos Aires was the Pampas grassland with groves of these small native trees.
