Angel of Ponte Sant'Angelo

The Ponte Sant'Angelo, originally the Pons Aelius or Bridge of Hadrian was completed in AD134 by the Emperor Hadrian to span the Tiber from the city to his newly constructed mausoleum, the CastelSant'Angelo.

The Angel with the Lance is one of 10 statues commissioned in 1669 by Pope Clement IX depicting the instruments of the Passion.
