Trevi Fountain
Commissioned in 1730 by Pope Clement XII as a competition, the Trevi Fountain was designed by Nicola Salvi.
Construction began in 1732 and continued for some 30 years. Neither Clement (174) or Salvi (1751) lived to see the finished fountain, which was completed by Giuseppe Pannini.
It is said that a visitor who throws a coin into the fountain is ensured a return to Rome.
