Rain

Last day of the trip (or so we thought...).

At the Dulles Washington DC airport, awaiting our flight to Salt Lake City, then to Anchorage. I go to the restroom, and when I return a few minutes later, the heavens have opened up and rain is literally pouring down in the meanest sounding thunderstorm [wo]man has ever seen. We wait for at least an hour as our flight is waiting in Williamsburg for the storm to end. The wind was howling and pushing the three inches of water on the tarmac around in waves. You could barely make out planes moving around on the taxiways about 100 yards away. I took this after the storm had ended and aircraft resumed action.

Needless to say, we missed our flight in Salt Lake. By two minutes. And they wouldn't let us on. We were given a paper with a number for Delta's hotel system, free hotel room for the night if you miss your flight. And, with our luck, said hotel system was full.

Found a hotel after the 16th or so try, as all of the rest were either full, or had a smoking/one king size bed room left.

Made it home a day late.
