I'm just not sure
Of the several photos I took today this is the one I like best.
I'm not really sure if the silhouetted steep side in the LH corner is a good addition or not. I was initially taking shots from higher but was concerned the sun, to my left and very bright might put some unwanted artefacts into the final image, so I dropped down the fellside a bit and was totally in shadow for this one.
I used a grad filter onsite held over the near steep fell so that I could rasie the shadows therein if I wanted to. To be honest though, bringing them up a little dettracts from the rest of the image so I kept that area mostly blacked out.
It was a glorious morning to be up the fells. unfortunately I had to go to work before I could get into them and even 2 hrs after sunrise I could tell that the early 'magic' had gone. I spent a while up there and watched the mist slowly roll away from the lakes surface to leave it glasslike - the trees, yachts and boathouses reflected at the waters edge were each a photo opportunity themselves.
FYI - The shooting location was just off Arthurs Pike, the skyline is the Helvellyn range with Catstycams point to the RHS of Helvellyns indistinct summit and Striding Edge to it's left. Somewhere in the valley mist will be Howtown and I will let Snappy name those fells in the mid distance as, quite frankly, I do not know them without looking at the map and I know he likes to appear superior in his fell knowledge over my own
