Nothing but flowers

Well in this case, fields. When I first moved to Louvain-la-Neuve this spot I ran past in the late afternoon today was rolling fields. Over the last decade, the science park has spread out, eating up fields and woods with low rise office and semi-industrial buildings.

Science park is a bit of a misnomer since many of the companies installed are relatively standard service type companies that could be easily installed in the town centre about a 1km away. Instead they park themselves down where everyone working there or visiting them has the excuse "but I need my car".

With this rate of urban sprawl, soon we'll be singing like the Talking Heads...about 'nothing but parking lots'...
