Life of Tiree

Centenary

This amazing lady celebrated 100 years' of life today. I am very proud that she is Great Grandma to Milo and Summer and that I'm married to her grandson. We've had a wonderful weekend of family celebrations. Crosthwaite House has been bursting with family, food, drink and excitement.

When Pat Allwood was welcomed into the world things were just a little bit different.

Calbraith Perry Rodgers made a transcontinental flight across the US, from NY to Long Beach. He didn't check in on-line, and he didn't even complain that the journey took 84 days and involved stopping and crashing 70 times.

Whilst Italian troops moved in to occupy Tripoli, some clever folk over in London were busy getting the 1st public elevator up and running, giving passengers at London's Earl's Court tube station an easier option than the stairs.

The immense hull of the Titanic was launched, with outfitting being completed the following year, ready for the disastrous maiden voyage.

Of course there are some facts that we will never know. Did Pat's mother struggle with being heavily pregnant through an unusually severe heat wave that summer? How much of today's party will Great Grandma remember tomorrow? One thing's for sure, we'll all be remembering it for her, it was a delight to see her eyes full of life, singing away and tapping her beautifully manicured fingers on a straw boater hat, surrounded by balloons, flowers, cards and gifts from a 100 year's worth of family and friends.

Happy Birthday to you.
