Crane on Guard

We took a little boat ride and found this guy right outside the boat ramp. We often find cranes, herons, egrets and such there. You'd be surprised how difficult it is to take a photograph of a wild bird from a moving boat with a 400mm lens.

I need to confess that I cheated on this shot. What was the cheat?
