On Golden Genesys Pond
I had to make a p.m. run to Genesys Hospital to wheel around my doctor. He had an afternoon admission. I decided to go early, take a small walk, and snap a few pictures.
The geese were pretty in the setting sun, the sea-gulls were hanging out on the lightposts, and the tall grasses were great in silhouette..but I kept coming back to this small pond. It reminded me of the movie On Golden Pond.
The sun was nearly set. My hands and head were getting cold. I wanted to wait just a few more minutes..to see if the sun lit up the strung-out clouds.
I thought I heard a voice. "What are you doing out here..you old poop?" I didn't see anyone, but it sounded like Ethel Thayer (Katherine Hepburn) from the movie.
"I'm just wating for the sun to go beyond the horizon."
"Aren't you cold..you old poop?"
"I am a little cold..but I want to stay a little longer."
"OK, you old poop..I'll see you inside."
That was all I could take. I conjured up my best Henry Fonda..and lashed out.."Listen to me..Old Woman..I'll do as I darn well please..and I'm sick of you calling me Old Poop."
The cackle of the sea-gull leaving the light-post snapped me back to reality. Ethel was nowhere to be found, and the sun had disappeared. At least the sea-gull didn't poop on the old poop. I hurried into the hospital lobby.
